How's the Carlos Lee trade looking now?

Featured Replies

Now that El Duque and Viz are gone, the trade was basically Carlos for Pods, AJ, and Vasquez. Nice work, Kenny!

It probably has to end somewhere. In 5 years we will have basically traded Carlos Lee for our entire team + spects.

Agreed. And then since you are taking the initial money we saved and used on other players, you have to take the opposite this time as it will cost us an additional $1.5 million to get Vasquez (+ loss of Chris Young not accounted for), which could have been used to sign a LOOGY or something.

I'd still take Lee.

I think that's a fair assessment. The extra $1.5 million mentioned later in the thread comes from increased revenue as a result of the Lee trade.

Its really a stretch to stretch trades out like this. But if that is a fair assessment, then Harold Baines netted us Sammy Sosa and Wilson Alvarez in 1989. Sosa then netted us George Bell in 1992 and Alvarez netted us Mike Caruso, Keith Foulke, Bobby Howry, Lorenzo Barcelo, Brian Simmons, amongst others in 1997. Mike Caruso's demise allowed us to have "Kalapse" on this board so in some form, Harold Baines got us Kalapse from Sox Talk.

That's also a fair assessment.

If/when we trade Garland, it'll extend Matt Karchner's value for the Sox.
