How important is the bullpen?

Looks like the bullpen does matter. And that is precisely why the Sox went out and got a dominant reliever in Rick White

Could be worse, have you seen how Alan Embree and Bobby Howry are fairing as middle relievers?

Look at the numbers, Sox have had a good bullpen year in and year out and they will continue to have one over the next few years. I have no doubt about it and I also know and believe that this pen will be in the top 5 by the end of the season.

I agree as long as White is gone. He is just not good.

that is why you build a team through the bullpen first.

I say stop coddling the damn starters. I'd rather have a pitcher like Colon who isn't afraid to finish a game. This was his 3rd CG so far. We need to let pitchers go 125-150 pitches if they're ahead. Hell didn't Nolan Ryan throw 250 pitches in one game?

There is a difference between Colon and Ryan....a vast difference.

For starters....Nolan Ryan struck out some 5700 batters in his career, or something like that...and he pitched 27 years, which obviously showed that he had good mechanics....which brings me to my next point, in that Colon does NOT have good mechanics. He does not have bad mechanics....but they sure as hell ain't good.

If you are ahead by quite a bit, and your pitchers has over 100 pitches in the 7th or 8th....you take him out....period.
