I have always suspected that is true, now that I'm learning a little history, it has become clearer that you are correct. So now we have a whose sword is mightier situation that will probably last forever.

I never thought about the significance of what was done back then. We are worried about increased government abuse of emminent domain here, imagine on a worldwide scale.

Where Jews from Germany expected to pack up and move to the Middle East? There is a twisted side to this, round up the Jews and send them to one place?

Actually, there was a document in 1917 that was meant to create a Jewish state that included modern Israel and Jordan. The British were given control of that area when the Ottoman Empire collasped after WWI. They gave that land in the Balfour Declaration that was supported by the US and Soviet Union.

Here is a simplification of the issue...let's suppose your next door neighbor had a son that, for whatever reason, was thrown out of his house. Out of the kindness of your heart, you allow him to live in your house until he can go home.

 

Eventually he gets so comfortable in your house (because he has many more rights and freedoms there) that he decides that your house is his house.

 

Now he wants his friends and family to enjoy the same rights and freedoms he has, so he tries to get them to move in to your house. When you explain to him that you don't have room for all these people, he tells you that he will kill you and your family members so that his "people" can take over your home.

I agree whole heartily with your example, except, when Israel was created in the 1940s, wasn't it more like this example?

 

The neighbor comes to you and proclaims, my great grandfather lived in your house, you have to move out. Even the United Nations agrees, you have to leave.
