I get the point..

What part of agree to disagree do YOU not understand...?

The part when I told you the fault in my thought process and you continued at it. That's all.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:52 PM)
Actually, according to the rules of writing, a comma is absolutely needed. Put the sentence in Microsoft Word. It asks you to put a comma there.

Like Steff is held to these "rules " like the rest of us.

:P Please...

I think y'all are getting a lil' bent out of shape over a little grammatical miscue. Where I come from we don't worry ourselves trying to be perfect in our gramma, just have to get our point accross.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 04:53 PM)
I did, and it doesn't.

The word November is underlined. If you right click it and accept the changes the program wants, it places a comma after November.

I don't know why it won't post in here. Here's the link to the word image: http://www.whitesoxcenter.com/word.gif

It's not even a miscue.. it's just a personal pref. Both ways are correct.

I guess it depends on the mentality of your target reader if you use the comma or not.. :rolly

Don't bother. I really don't care.

You're still missing the point. Are you a writer?

Usually my target audience is best described as 'moron'...does that mean I include a comma?

Oh for the love of God...

You win....

It should, yes. And generally your target audience should be thought of as a moron. If it's not, then the understanding you have as a writer is that the audience will understand what is going on in your head. You can never, ever do that. And if you did, you could write a classic book such as The Great Gatsby like this:

There once was a guy who liked fancy parties. And he had this thing with a blinking light. Then people died. The end.

Aww come on, how can you back down that easy?!?! The future of the written word hangs in the balance, and you just give up? Somewhere the founding fathers of the mla and apa are rolling over in their graves over this travesty.

I see your point but I am also a journalism major so I think that most professors in our field are just asses.  I see grammatical errors in our papers, TV anchors, and talk show host all the time.  My pet peeves are Redundunt speech and double negatives.

(I.E) Hawk- "Back with the Final totals in a moment." I turn off the TV before the Postgame comes on just because of that.

I understand exactly what you are saying. :bang

Oh god...it's not a professional paper!  At least he wrote something. :)

He did say, "constructive criticism appreciated".

:)

Anything to make the youngin's hoot & holler ;)

Dylan... please forgive me for questioning your correction of the s***ty writing. You are absolutely right in your criticism.

Please, carry on... :cheers
