You know what I really fucking hate?

Mods abusing their power by opening up a closed and locked thread, making huge assumptions, name calling, calling priests thugs and goons and then re-closing the thread. Pretty f***ing classless if you ask me. Reminds me of a former mod/admin we had a problem with. Pretty f***ing despicable.

Is this not under the rules of attacking?

I have to agree. Whether or not you agree with LCR's stance or words, it's not exactly classy to post in a closed thread as an Admin, just to get in the last word. For shame.

Before you pile on the s*** storm, if he was posting when the thread was locked, he can still post and not know the difference. I've done that before and not meant to.

Unless he's an awfully slow typer... I'd say he wasn't posting when Mike locked it.

And the post right before it specifically stated it was locked, even if he didn't see the little X.

He posted 2 and a half hours after it was locked.

He didn't. Noone was posting after it was closed.

I'm glad someone else noticed it and brought it up.

Yep.

I tried (and obviously failed) to open it back up. So much for writing first thing in the morning.

I've been trying to splice out some of the argument thread that caused SS2K to close it & then re-open.

I was sure to edit the bs from my reply... your welcome :D

ok... I wasn't around... I just stated what could have happened. It's back open, I'm sure you all have noticed by now.

Actually I hate to put this on hold, but basically we are trying to decide for ourselves what we want to do here... The whole point of this board was to let all of the mindless crap that had infected SLaP go somewhere else, and that we could let people basically be idiots if they felt the overwealming need, and the implicit agreement was that if you were posting there, you know what you could read there, and we wouldn't have to babysit. Basically we are discussing if there still needs to be a line, and what crosses it... Stay tuned for further developments.

If there wasn't a "line", then I stand corrected and will keep my disdaine to myself. But, if you want my opinion there should be a line as I said in my other post.

You know me, Mike. I'm not one to get into these heated arguments too often. I'm not one to start a thread like the two I've started the last couple days. But, this really burns me up. It's blantant disrespect for someone's religion and faith - NOT a debate. It's stereotypical bulls***. Again, I can't get away with that when it comes to race or sexual orientation. It's the same thing.

I think the respect the mods/admins have for everyone involved and their posting habits on this site is the reason that this isn't as cut and dried as a lot of our discussions. Usually it is pretty easy to decide what to do with a problem, but this time it is a little more muddy. Plus it isn't as much just this one incident, as what we decide here kinda shapes how we handle all of the future incidents of this nature on this particular board.

I think there are obviously still lines in place, or the thread would not have been closed prior to Apu's blatant power-drunk stealth post. :)

I think the personal attack rules still hold, and I think the guidelines regarding attacks on personal sensabilities is what has been loosened up in Flii-SLAP.

I made a point of saying toward the beginning of my offending post that my beef is not with the rank and file lay Catholic practicioners, other than the fact that I'd like to see more of 'em grow a pair and openly criticize the Church leadership more.

Even in suggesting that the Roman Catholic priesthood seemed a safer bet for an aspiring pedophile than other available avenues, I don't believe I'm showing 'blantant disrespect for the religion and faith.' Rather, I'm expressing my loathing for the individuals who commit these acts and the institutional culture that has aided and abbeted it.

Wow. I hate to offend anybody, but this a subject that is a powder keg. The way I'm seeing this discussion is that LCR, Mr. Kickass and FlaSoxxJim are condemning some of the policies of the institution of the Catholic Church, and not the faith or the religion as a whole. The Church, throughout history, has done an uncalculable amount good and compassionate deeds. Conversely, the Church has history of spilling a lot of blood, corruption, using the name of Christ to serve it's own policies and politics.

Hey, wow, YASNY understands that there's a difference. :) Thanks!

You don't have to sound so totally shocked! :lolhitting

YAS has hit it on the head.

If the mods/admins are concentrating on the issue of the discussion on the church or some other specific hot button issue, then frankly, the point of this thread has been missed.

The thing that burned people up here, if you look at the initial postings, was that an Admin used their authority to post in a blocked thread to get in a last word. And his response, frankly, was well short of any kind of apology, or even an acknowledgement that he/she did something wrong.

This situation may cool off quicker if said Admin apologized, or at least acknowledged the classless act, and then promised to not do that again.

Maybe you're right, but apparently more than one person was offended personally. I'm not a "rapist apologist". I am deeply offended by the actions of the church in some of these cases, but I am also offended by someone saying: If you want to f*** kids join the preisthood. All priests are not pedophiles. It's a stereotypical statement that wouldn't fly in any other case and IMO shouldn't fly here - Fillibuster or not.

He kind of did and re-opened it. It has since be re-closed. While I still have a problem with it, it's not my "beef" anymore.
