Owens scouting report?

Featured Replies

First, let me say hello. Nifty little site yall have here. Been a Sox fan since before it was fashionable to be so. My early years were in the Veeck days. I respect the Cubs fans that are actual baseball fans... both of them. I have 4 seats in the outfield near the Sox Pen. In the last 15 years I have seen about 40 games a year. I am headed to Arizona tomorrow for two days. Looking forward to another great season.

Anyway, what is the poop on Owens? I read early on that Ozzie was pretty high on this kid for his speed. Is Anderson just a fore gone conclusion or does Owens have a shot?

"Owens brings a football mentality to the game. He rates a 70 on the 20-80 scale in speed, and 60 in average. Defensively his arm is a liability, and will probably limit him to LF. His peak is probably Juan Pierre/Scott Podsednik, but he could be a useful utility player right now" -- AL scout, Haywood Jablomee

Owens doesnt play CF. So yes, Anderson is the starter.

That's not true. Owens does play center - he started there a couple days ago.

I think he has an exceleent shot at amking team, although more likely, he'll start at Charlotte and come up a couple months in.

I think Borchard's surprisingly effective ST so far has knocked Owens out of the picture.

I think JO is a CF like Pods was. He can play it, but that doesn't mean he should.

Owens started in CF because there was nobody else who could. We wont see Jerry starting anywhere until PODS is gone.
