Although it still amazes me in the age of Google, and the amazingly easy say, "mlb save rules" search-- that people start threads about stuff like this. tealeafreaderii
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) Welcome aboard. Although it still amazes me in the age of Google, and the amazingly easy say, "mlb save rules" search-- that people start threads about stuff like this. Saves: Rule 10.20 in the Official Rule Book states: Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions: (1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and (2) He is not the winning pitcher; and (3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions: - (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or - (B) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces; or - © He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game. So say garcia pitches 6 innings and leaves with a big lead... like 12 runs... then Bmac comes in and pitches 3 scoreless innings... did Bmac get a save? Felix
QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 03:22 AM) So say garcia pitches 6 innings and leaves with a big lead... like 12 runs... then Bmac comes in and pitches 3 scoreless innings... did Bmac get a save? Yes, this happened earlier this week with Boone Logan. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=260425112
chitownsportsfan
If the official scorer deems him to have pitched effectively yes--this situation happened the other day with Logan. The save is the most arbritrary of all baseball stats.
