Indeed it was close, a little too close. Great play by Monroe to make the grab too incidentally.

Oh yeah, huge! Now let's see him get out of it with Peralta at the dish.

Got em to groundout!

Paul Byrd is done, and Fernando Cabrera is in.

Numbers for him are not good. 0-1, with a 7.07 ERA.

tigerfan, is there any chance that Zumaya will move into the rotation for Maroth or will he stay in the pen this year?

The replacement for Mike Maroth...

It'll be Roman Colon. Leyland announced it in his pregame interview. He's already stretched out after Thursday's game, and it doesn't hurt them tremendously in the bullpen because they brought up another reliever in Maroth's place. Colon won't be on a tight pitch count, and could even go 100 pitches if he's pitching well against the Yankees. The other candidates Leyland said he had been considering were Jordan Tata and Wilfredo Ledezma at Triple-A Toledo and Humberto Sanchez at Double-A Erie. Leyland wouldn't commit to saying Colon will hold down the spot for as long as Maroth is out, but that's partly because he doesn't know how long he'll be out.

1 out double for Grandy. Alright now, let's get this insurance run in, could definitely use it.

Base hit for Polanco! Grandy comes around to score, and though Polanco is tossed out at 2nd, we got that all important insurance run. 3-1.

Thanks. I'm surprised the organization feels that his future is in the bullpen after averaging 6.5 hits and 11 k's per nine through his minor league career with no relief appearences which I think was all accomplished by the young age of 20.

Guillen strikes out to end the 8th. Jones should be coming in for the 9th I'm thinking.

At least Cleveland is just faller farther and farther out I guess

And it is indeed Jones. 0-1 record with a ERA of 3.31, but 15 saves in 16 chances for him so far. Let's see if he can't make it 16 of 17.

Hafner leads off with a single.

I like how the Tiger relievers attack the strike zone. What a concept.

Curious...isn't there a Tigers board you should be on?

And there's your ballgame! 8 in a row!

I do actually post over at a Tigers board too. I just started doing this so you guys are aware of what we are doing, in case you can't see the game or something.

If we can post on this board that means we have access to the game (MLB.TV. Gamecast, Gameday Audio, etc).

It's a raging debate amongst Tiger fans. Most really want to see him start.

A stud starter is so much more valuable than a stud closer IMO.

True I did think about that a minute ago, I think if I a recall I registered here for some other reason, don't recall why now, I wanted to post somewhere I think on some topic. In that case I suppose I won't do them, not really neccessary anyway.

Let us take the agony alone, this is like a "guys only" treehouse.

Understood.

I'd be surprised if Zumaya avoided arm troubles pitching as a starter.

His delivery looks like a recipe for Tommy John surgery. He practically flings the ball at 100 mph.

He does use a lot of arm but I think it's less violent than say Felix Hernandez.

I've heard Mark Prior described as having 'the perfect delivery' and look at his injury problems...

I think Zumaya is probably going to be in the pen for awhile, but he's so young that doesn't mean he'll never become a starter.

Well whether he stays in pen for the long haul or not, he needs time to be able to get guys out with more then just his 100 mph heat. That may work for now, but eventually teams will adjust.

It's lucky that his curve is devastating then :P

I'd like to see him bust out the circle change more often though.

  • Author

LOL true, but still though he relys on his heat a little too much. Look what happened when he tried to get it by Griffey.

Zumaya could turn into our own version of Neal Cotts.

A few years back you're pretty sure he'll be in our rotation some day, but he becomes so valuable as a set-up guy, you just don't to move him from that role he's suceeding in.
