Here's a pick-me-up for victory-starved fans of the Chicago Cubs. Cheer up — you could be a fan of the 2006 Chicago White Sox's minor-league organization.

Professional baseball minor league organizational standings through Thursday had the Cubs No. 8 out of 30 with a franchise record of 97-88.

Minor-league teams in the Chicago White Sox organization were 21st with a record of 90-95.

Need more reason to puff your chest, Cub fans?

The Cardinals were 25th with a record of 89-100, and the Yankees were 22nd at 89-95.

The Cubs system breakdown before Friday's games:

West Tenn (double-A)28-20

Peoria (Class A)26-19

Daytona (Class A)24-23

Iowa (triple-A)19-26

The top five minor league organizations before Friday's games:

Houston Astros111-81

Cleveland Indians106-81

San Francisco Giants100-81

Detroit Tigers97-84

Minnesota Twins96-84

The bottom five minor league organizations before Friday's games:

Washington Nationals85-99

Arizona Diamondbacks86-102

New York Mets87-109

Kansas City Royals81-103

Texas Rangers80-106

Word(s) from the boss: Chicago Cubs president Andy MacPhail attended Iowa Cubs games in Des Moines recently. Here are his views on a couple of hot topics:

Pitching-rich organization : "Due to the (idiosyncracies) of our ballpark and how it plays, we made an effort to focus on pitching in the draft, and by and large we've been successful. It's easier and cheaper to track free-agent hitters than it is free-agent pitching."

Barry Bonds and the steroids issue : "That story has a lot of twists and turns in its future and I've pretty much chosen to stay out of it. Over time, you're going to learn more about it — what's fact and what's fiction.

"We're all looking the wrong way. We're looking back, when you ought to be looking forward. What's done is done. What you really have to do now is make sure you have the best program going forward that you possibly can, and you're vigilant about ensuring that the program is as effective as it can possibly be."

What a joke

Title says 25, article says 21

Sorry Heads, Iowa sucks.

Matters.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn!!

The MLB team is kicking ass so who cares??. :gosox1: :gosox2: :gosox3: :gosox4: :gosoxretro: :fthecubs :bringit

The state of Iowa doesn't necessarily suck, but the DM Register does as far as sports coverage.

Bring back the Big Peach dammit.

Iowa should be Chernobyl'd so nobody can live there for several centuries. Evacuate Heads and the others on here from there first, then do it. That state is really just a giant cesspool of corn, hogs, tornadoes, and Cubs fans for the most part.

What a sophisticated comment.

Nuke the bastards -- they're all hicks and cornstalks!

Not all, only about 98 percent of them. I hate that damn place.

You hate a lot of things don't you?

Iowa, Indiana basketball, the Cubs, the Indians, 3-0 swings, and stupid people. I don't hate a lot of things, it's just a lot of people fall into the categories I hate.

Well, at least you've added nuance to your appalling comments. It makes my heart go pitter pat to think about how much thought you put into that.

I know I probably should not respond to this, but I just hate the low gas prices, low mortgage payments, low cost of living, ease of transportation, clean air, good schools, etc. I also hate all of the hicks out here who were able to invent something like the first electronic computer. Must be pretty backward and technologically deficient to come up with something like that.

Seriously, there are a lot of good things about the place, and I get a bit tired of hearing the way some people talk about it.
