I agree. If Baltimore was willing to deal, I would be all for trading for a 5 tool guy who is still in his 20s.

I was actually all for getting him in the offseason too, but meh. I don't know if I'd give up too much for him though.

It would take too much to get him now. It would have been a good idea last off season, but that's hind sight for ya.

This is true, Scott Boras is his agent, this however would not be a major problem until after the '07 season when he becomes a free agent. Of course there is always his last year of arbitration which is upcomming after '06.

What's the O's first baseman situation like? They f***ed up on a Derrek Lee trade, tried to sign Konerko, and tired to move Javy Lopez to first.

hmmm, Rogo+Anderson? thats a pretty nice return for only having to give up two lowely 2nd base prospects and it gets them younger, frees up $$$ for pitching and gives them control of both for a while.

Corey Patterson has sucked for 5 years. He's in a new league, but the pitchers will figure this guy out sooner or later. I'm afraid he would get here and become the Corey Patterson Chicago fondly remembers. I'd look elsewhere.

I heard a Score interview with a Baltimore paper guy and he said that they basically brought him in for his D and that it's been very good.

 

He'd be placed in the 8th or 9th spot, so he could just do his thing, and more speed.

I think that Corey Patterson confuses people more than pretty much any other player in the majors. If we're talking defense, he's excellent, he's above average, he's merely average, he's below average, he's atrocious, etc. The stuff that I've been reading is just amazing.

 

All I know is that he is 26 out of 27 in SB opportunities, he leads the league in bunt-hits, and he is approaching a .300 batting average. Has he sucked for 5 years? Sure. How old is he now? Only 26. Am I gonna go on record and say that we should look elsewhere? Hell no. Some of them numbers are pretty f***ing telling. You don't disregard a guy who is murder on the basepaths & has the potential to finish with a .340 OBP, .280 AVG, and 100+ runs while leading the league in steals and bunt-hits. We should look elsewhere for what, exactly?

I'm not in favor of trading for him, just because of his strikeout numbers, but don't forget he will get to play the Cubs 6 times a year and 81 of his games will be in Chicago, soooo, he would have a lot to prove, or at least rub it into the Cubs faces if he does well. It may not be a bad move, but I don't think Balto would trade him now.

What's so bad about 96 strikeouts (what he's currently on pace for)? He's only walked 11 times compared to his 32 Ks but the guy is still finding ways to get on base, I have no problem with a player striking out around 100 times if he's going to be getting on base anyway and when he is on base taking 2 extra bases with his sick speed. Hell Jermaine Dye is currently on pace for 105 strikeouts, Podsednik 99, Konerko 120 and Iguchi an unsettling 150.

who ever said his D is suspect? the guy has absolutely incredible range and a pretty good arm. it is true that he isnt quite as polished as youd like him to be (at least 2 years ago) but in those two years im sure hes progressed. as for his offense, what he is doin right now isnt a mirage.....his average is a little high probably, but the SBs are for real, and anyone who has seen him hit BP knows 7 homers isnt alot for him
