Why did Riske drop his appeal?

Featured Replies

The timing of things is odd, especially with the pen getting a few good workouts lately. Jenks had worked 3 of 4 games, Thornton had worked 2.1 the day before, and McCarthy had also worked two IP the game prior... I don't get it?

he is done with it now right? i think it was so we weren't playing in a national league stadium being down both riske and anderson.

Riske had worked 2.2 the past two games himself, he most likely was considered unavailable for last nights game anyways, of course he very well could have been needed but there was no way to know it would last 13 innings. McCarthy had pitched only 1 inning the game prior. I'm guessing the fact that he had worked two straight days, the off-day today and Buehrle going Tuesday that the bullpen wouldn't really miss him so they wanted to get the suspension out of the way as it would have most likely been upheld after an appeal anyways.

With him most likely unavailable last night, it basically gets reduced to a 2 game suspension. Its better to be a little short against the Pirates than just about any other team out there right now. I think its the right move. I think Montero will be sent down and Politte brought up by tomorrow's game. Although Politte wasn't all that effective his second time out.

According to the Tribune Politte won't be brought up till Wednesday at the earliest. Hes supposed to pitch again today for the Knights and then they are going to decide what to do with him. It makes sense to bring him back up for now since Montero has been just as ineffective as Politte was before his stint on the DL.

One word - Pirates. Not a bad move.

I think the SOX figured, get it out of the way as soon as possible, and get him ready for the post AllStar stretch, as opposed to waiting around for the League to drag its feet for a month before hearing his appeal.
