Serie A Match-Fixing Scandal

Featured Replies

I'm not entirely sure how many of you care, but Juventus, Lazio, and Florentina have been relegated to the second division. Those teams and AC Milan were also docked a varying number of points in the standings.

ESPN Article

Interesting that they decided not to relegate AC Milan as well. Maybe they felt that it would be unfair to the rest of the second division to send two Serie A powerhouses down. It appears that they really went after Juventus, they were penalized a whopping 30 points. That's a lot of ground to make up to get back to Serie A, but with their roster I'd imagine they'll make that up fairly quickly in the second division.

I think that a lot of the players have clauses in their contracts that voids the contract if the team gets relegated, meaning most would be playing elsewhere next year. I could be wrong though.

Interesting, I didn't think about that. That would obviously change things.

Or they can be sold at a cut price if the team were to get relegated which it has. Interesting times ahead.

Yeah, this is huge. Inter Milan and Roma look like the two favorites for the upcoming Serie A season. This should make the Serie A more competitive in the future as well. The powers will take a few years to get back going again (Juventus has a massive deficit, they won't be able to overcome it. They'll have another season in Serie B). Also, everyone moves up to spots in European competitions which means more money for those teams that they would not have received otherwise. It's going to be very interesting to see how it unfolds. I wouldn't be surprised if they lower some of the point penalties with appeals though.

The vultures of Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal and Real Madrid are circling in.

Roman Abramovich wants Allesandro Nesta AND / OR Fabio Cannavaro despite the fact they already have Terry, Gallas, Carvelio just to name a few as their central defenders.

Damn, that sucks for those teams, but they shouldn't have done what they did. I haven't liked Juventus since they beat me in the ECC in FIFA 2006 :D , but I feel bad for them in a way, especially everyone in their organization who wasn't involved in the wrong-doings.

On a side note, I'd like to thank the World Cup for turning me into a soccer fan. I've never really liked soccer until now. I thought it was boring, but after World Cup play, I've gotten into it. I actually watched some of the Fire game today until I had to go to the golf store to buy a new bag before they closed.

Look for most of the Italian players to stay within the Serie A though. They tend to stay in their country more than most. Guys like Ibrahimovic, Kaka, and others will be top prizes likely to leave Italy though.

Wow, some great players will be leaving Italy soon. I agree with Danman, look for the non-Italians to go to La Liga or the Bundesliga. Should be interesting to see what Camaronesi does.

Looks like the transfer frenzy is getting started...

The sharks are circling

Some serious talent in there. What's the over/under on guys that end up somewhere besides Chelsea and Real Madrid, 2? :P
