He had an iffy college season by a 1st round picks' standards. Maybe the Sox wanted to let him ease into pro ball, making sure his college struggles weren't going to carry over. Not to mention the heavy workload as the ace of one of the best teams in the country. Lumsden and Broadway both had dead arm periods and pitched limited innings after getting drafted. Let's not forget that Kanny is an awful team and might have a negative clubhouse feel. Not to say they have bad characters, but losing sucks.
July 29, 200619 yr I live in Great Falls and the Great Falls White Sox are an awful team and they deserve everything their getting... They suck and have played absolute terrible baseball... I know it's rookie ball but you'd think they would at least be able to cut down the screw ups...

Probably just to get him acclimated really quickly. They may have had something they wanted him to work on before going up a level or they may have figured he had a break between the last time he pitched in a game so give him a few starts at a lower level (the lower levels are less about winning than someone like Winston Salem who would be pissed if we forced a guy into there rotation that was gonna get hit his first few starts as he wasn't ready) before finally moving him up. I don't see the harm in it.
