LOS ANGELES - Ellen DeGeneres has been tapped to host next year's Oscars, the Academy of Motions Pictures Arts and Sciences said Thursday.

It will be the comedian and TV talker's first time hosting the Oscars show and first appearance on the award show. She has hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards telecast twice and co-hosted it once, and hosted the Grammys twice.

Who still watches these award shows?

Wish they could get Steve Martin to do it again.

Never been an Ellen fan. Never thought she was funny. Can't stand her talk show. Bad decision, IMO.

If they have a host I enjoy, I'll watch. Watched Conan hosting the Emmy's, watched Stewart hosting last year. Both were pretty good.

Hopefully Ellen bombs this time...the producers get desperate...and next year, they turn, of course, to Stephen Colbert...

If dealing with Ellen as host means more shots of Portia De Rossi in the crowd all dolled up then i can live with it.

 Portia (even if i'm not her type)
