November 3, 200619 yr Crede is a great fielder, but he's not the best third baseman in the American League. Apparently it's a good thing Sox fans don't vote for the award because the winners would be worse than they are now.
November 3, 200619 yr QUOTE(BainesHOF @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) Crede is a great fielder, but he's not the best third baseman in the American League. Apparently it's a good thing Sox fans don't vote for the award because the winners would be worse than they are now. You could make a case though. I think his 2005 season was much better. This year he made a lot more flashy plays, but last year he was just so consistent. Rarely threw the ball away, which he seemed to do alot more in 06. 2005 Uribe and Crede should have won a GG. No doubt about it. Oh, and where's the love for Paul Konerko? Probably the most underrated defensive 1B in baseball. Sure, he doesn't have the range, but he plays 1st. And how many times have we seen him pick one out of the dirt in crucial situations? Cases could also be made for Garland and Buehrle, but the mediots would actually have to watch BASEBALL (not Baseball Tonight) to realize these things. (Oh, I'm not asking for an all White Sox GG team, I'm just saying cases could be made. That is all. ) Edited November 3, 200619 yr by SoxFan76
November 3, 200619 yr QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) The GG, like the Heisman and most other media-voted awards, is absolute garbage. There is no correlation between winning it and being what the winner was intended to be. It's voted on by managers and coaches. For Crede to win, he has to unseat the incumbent and have a clear cut edge. Crede committed 10 errors, Chavez 5. Should Juan Pierre win a GG this year as well?

November 4, 200619 yr It's kind of like being a Congressman. Get in for your first term and then don't screw it up, and basically you're tenured.
November 4, 200619 yr Buster Olney has an Insider article on how the gold gloves are a joke. Anyone a member that can verify whether or not he talks about Crede/Uribe in it? Edited November 4, 200619 yr by knightni

November 5, 200619 yr I don't understand the disbelief that Crede didn't win the Gold Glove. Must be a homer-based emotional reaction, because Crede's certainly not worthy of a Gold Glove.

Crede didn't necessarily deserve the gold glove, but he deserved it more than Chavez did, that's for sure. If I had it my way, Crede/Inge/Lowell would have won it at 3B, and anyothershortstopintheAL would have won it instead of Jeter.
