Nice.

 

I loved that place. The first time I went there (when I was 8 years old), I distinctly remember walking through the concourse out into the upper deck behind the third-base dugout. I remember how much smaller the place looked in person than it did on TV (which is saying a lot, given that I was a little kid back then) and was surprised how close the upper deck was to the field.

 

I'm happy with The Cell and am glad that the Sox have a state-of-the-art (or close to) ballpark, but it'll never compare to Old Comiskey.

Heartbreaking. I'm all emotional right now. Did you catch the 1987 ticket prices? Even when you factor in for inflation, how cheap it was to see a ball game as recently as a generation ago.

I remember going to so many games there.

The last game, however, was so weird.

It was a cold September night and the Sox played Cleveland and it was soggy and cold and Cleveland led 7-1 in the seventh and the crowd was so small, and I said to my brother, 'Let's go.'

I patted the chair, took a long look out at the park and left.

Didn't feel like crying, but man it was sad.

Hard to describe, but we had great seats for many years and to hear the crack of the bat in that place was amazing when the park was full (which was not too often).

 

My brother knew I never liked to leave games early, never did it, but that night it seemed appropriate for some reason. We listened to the rest of game on the car radio and the score never changed. Bad bad game on a wet night.

I only went to old comiskey once. I am only 25 now, and I went when I was really little. My parents didn't have lots of money back then so I never got to go...we used to sit around as a family and watch the games. I went when i was 5 or 6 years old when the Brewers were in town. All I remember were the arches and Robin Yount hitting a home run.

Maybe one day we will see the "cell" (comiskey goddamnit) get torn down.

You should have seen the ticket prices back during the '60's and 70's then, lol......

 

It was sad to see my old stomping ground as a kid come down like that, so many memories for me happened at Comiskey Park, back in my childhood and teenage years, before i moved to Cali at age 20 in late 1979......

very cool slideshow. i went to my first game there in 1984 when i was just 6. my uncle had season tickets and would take me just about every weekend they were home from 1984-1990. i had alot of fun times there and watching mostly bad baseball back then. actually remembering back to those days, it makes this year not as bad in reality. the old comiskey days were were always bad, until 1990. let's just hope 2007 was just a little sppeedbump. i remember getting to go to the final night game at old comiskey when they turned the lights out too. it was quite an honor.
