They may not have been intense alot of the times last season, but it can definately be argued that the team had a lack of leadership. Konerko is not a leader no matter what Ozzie says. The guy does not command the locker room like a team leader should. He is a quiet lead by example leader, like Thome, like Crede, etc. It has been said the most vocal leader of our 2005 championship team was Carl Everett. The additon of Cabrera who was said to be the heart and soul of the Angels and some younger energy like swish and Quentin should put a new spin on this team. Even some of the vet pen guys should lend some fire to that part of the team.

Why did it take management a full season to figure that "we run hard in Chicago?" It all sounds good, but we will see how it translates into wins and a championship first.

I'm not disagreeing with you necessarily, but how in the world would you know that Konerko is not a leader in the locker room? We probably see about 3% of what goes on off the field.

I think our lack of focus cost us the playoffs in the last half of 2006 and could have been the difference in 2007. I hope we see the intensity we deserve to see from the White Sox, no matter how poorly talented you think they might be. If we see the 2007 model of Ozzie "I Give Up" Guillen managing at any point this year, I think we need to find a new manager sooner than later.

Focus alone doesn't take a 72 win team to a 95 win team. Talent was the issue last year. It's been addressed much better his offseason.

I agree that it wasn't the issue. But I think having some focus might have been the difference between a 72 win season and an 81-85 win season.

If there are players who can't even get motivated to do what they're paid obscene money to do, I find that appalling.

 

Let's hope this is indeed a "new" year; I would hate to go through 2007 ever again. That was embarassing.

Money doesn't motivate. It might in the short-term, but in the long term, you have to love what you do. Otherwise, all the money in the world isn't going to make you work hard and take pride in what you do. Motivation and pride comes from within, and it doesn't matter how many 0's are on your paycheck.
