King elected to become a free agent by refusing his assignment to Triple-A when the Nationals tried to demote him last month, but likely would have had better odds of getting back to the majors in Washington.

May 12, 200817 yr I'd say this is insurance in case Loogyn or Thornton go down. The only lefty on Charlotte's staff right now is Whisler, and with the way he's going they probably want to keep him in a starting role.
