6/16 Games

So, this is interesting. Charlotte is at Richmond, they are in rain delay (box), but the listed starter is... ESTEBAN LOAIZA.

B-Ham is off - looks like the whole Southern League is off today.

W-S @ Kinston, supposedly started at 6pm, but no box yet and no starter announced.

Kanny, and the whole SAL, appear to be off.

So how would it work if ELo is in AAA already? Quickly to a rehab stint somehow? Aren't those limited in duration?

Loaiza on rehab, Fields on the DL, Javier Castillo promoted from B'ham. The Warthogs game was cancelled a long time ago. It won't be played.

Seriously, how does that work? He was only on the DL a few days.

It doesn't matter, players always rehab with a minor league team while they're on the MLB DL.

Don't know the details, just heard that on the Knights broadcast.

I was at the Braves/Knights game last night and saw Josh walking with a (slight) limp, but didn't think much of it. I didn't go to tonight's game because of the rain, but I'm going to tomorrow's doubleheader, and I'll see if I can find anything out.

Yes this is true...but IIRC there are limits to the length of a rehab stint you can do without having to use up a minor league option (aka clearing waivers in ELo's case)

I heard Loaiza will make another rehab start on June 21st that will also be 3 innings or 60 pitches.

Did they get the game in tonight? If so, how did Loaiza do? Velocity?

Coop said Loaiza isn't actually hurt but since he hadn't pitched in a while and hadnt been getting regular throwing (bullpen sessions, starts, etc.) that they were going to let him start a few games in AAA to hopefully get his velocity back so he can contribute to the Sox later in the year.

See the first post in the thread, you can click on the "box" link to see the result. Charlotte lost 4-0.

Offense was couldn't capitalize - they had 2 doubles (Cook, Eldred), 4 singles (Getz, Castillo, Phillips, Bourgeois) and 5 walks (Getz 2, Cook, Richar, Huffman), but couldn't score any of those 11 baserunners.

Loaiza went 3 innings, gave up 4 hits, 2 ER, no walks and no strikeouts. Ohka went 4 IP in relief, gave up 2 ER.

Loaiza can serve the 15 days on the DL and then rehab. I do not think these starts are part of the rehab assignment. I also believe he can spend more than 15 days on the DL.

Rehab assignments can last no longer than 20 days. These starts would have to count towards rehab, a major league player can not participate in minor league ballgames while on the DL unless it's part of a rehab assignment. So the Sox will have to do something with Loaiza 19 days from now.

That's what I wanted to know, thanks.
