Jimbo's being replaced with Cubs bar? Jimbo wont have it!

Featured Replies

this place has more lives than the energizer bunny... I just wish there was somewhere more decent to go within a couple blocks of the park that's not the Bullpen Bar. The Miller Light Bombers are frosty and tasty there though :cheers

Blasphemy!!!!!

Jimbo's is a dump..

But its my Dump.. My White Sox bar..having it replaced with a chain Bar makes me nauseas..gallery_1349_634_191.gif

Barleycorn's drinker is not making me happy.

This would make no sense. Two weekends out of the year that place might be packed with Cub fans, but what about the rest of the year?

He also owns Moe's cantina, I would welcome the fake breasted bartenders down by our park. I dont think he understands that not only is that space not big enough for a Barleycorn, but the clientèle wouldnt appreciate it.

John Barleycorn sucks

wtf is going on!

Obviously I'm in a non-biased not so silent minority here, but I'd rather have Barleycorns than Jimbos...

Let's see...a washed up dump that servers crappy drinks in plastic cups (most of the time) and no/bad food...

vs

A bar with real beers on tap, served in real glasses, and decent bar food to boot...

Uh...hmmm....yeah. Sorry, but that's no contest IMO.

And I was born in and still live in Bridgeport, and don't care...I've always thought Jimbos sucked and still do.

As it stands right now Mitchells 7 days a week and twice on Sunday before I'm forced to go to Jimbos even once. :P

Oh and... :P

I agree Jimbos sucks. Overpriced cans of beer and plastic cups. With that said, Barleycorn knows they cant make much money in that location anyway.

And Puffers/Mitchells is waaay better.

Puffers is a damn good bar. Jimbo's is a dump, but I'd sooner go there than a Cubs bar.

Just wait till that area develops year after year and I think you will see some nice places pop up closer by.

John Barleycorn Must Die.

A bar is only a Cubs or Sox bar if the neighbors make it that way. I am sure there are a good handful of Cubs fans in the Sox's vicinity, but can they sustain a bar over the long haul? I am not so certain. If JB were to open in Bridgeport, it would have to be careful not to alienate Sox fans, especially considering how much business they could be turning away 81 days out of the year, not to mention the other 81 days the Sox are on the road and locals want to go out to a friendly bar to watch the game.

If you think about it, this is one of the big things we Sox fans have pointed to for years as the real reason there are so many Cubs "fans". They are more fans of Wrigley than the team and with that said, it is even more the neighborhood that makes them fans. You can get thrown out of a bar for being too drunk and end up landing in another bar on your way out. If more fun establishments open in Comiskeyville, it could support attendance figures, especially in down seasons, just like it has for the Cubs since the mid-80s.

Go ahead and call it a Cubs bar and see how well that sticks. How many cubs fans do you see traveling 8 miles or more south to watch the Cubs at a bar? It might be successful if they play a season or so at the Cell during renovations but I do not see it having any longevity.

I hate those Lincoln park / wrigleyville bars. frat boy and yuppie fest

but I suppose most of the pubs I drink at are basically full of hipsters and such. so i guess i have no room to condemn

Believe me, over the years, I've witnessed Bridgeport change, and to this day I am still witnessing the changes.

The problem with this logic is, by the time that area develops in that manner, I will no longer care, especially considering I'm going on 33 and will be getting married this September...so basically, that time of my life is past...and for that matter, good riddance to that time...my 30's have been far superior to my 20's...and I'm expecting my 40's to follow suit. ;)
