You have to balance short-term versus long-term benefits. Look at what Dusty Baker did to his pitching staff/s.

Danks hasn't been past 100 pitches in many games this year, you can let him go so as long as he do this often. horrible at-bat so far for Dye.

Konerko has been much better and is a solid fastball hitter so my guess is they think Alexei will make the rookie mistake. Hope he proves them wrong
