You know, if there needs to be an award for "guy that makes the difference and gets his team a ring", that's fine and dandy. However, and I don't care what they call it, but I also want to see an award for the player who's simply the flat out best in the league that year. Is that too much to ask?

It's just been repeated enough times that people accept it as fact without challenging it. Nowhere in the words "Most," "Valuable," and "Player" does it say anything about a team. This seems pretty simple to me. A good player = a valuable player. Therefore the best player = the most valuable. With enough good players (you need more than one even if he's the best) you will win games. There is no other way to win baseball games than to have players who are good at baseball.

Then ask literally any Twins fan here in Minnesota. They'll tell you he's absolutely terrible.

 

Then look at his numbers for yourself. .256/.293/.348 with 118 strikeouts as opposed to only 20 walks.

 

He's been a pathetic player this year, there's no way around that.

Whether he's been good in CF or not...I haven't been able to watch enough to figure it out, due to working at night...he still looks like a deer in the headlights out there on any play that he can tell is going to be big, especially when he is going back on the ball. He comes in on it pretty well, but he just does not move backwards very well yet.

 

Denard Span, on the other hand, is an absolutely fantastic player and I would argue that his emergence in the absence of Cuddyer this year is perhaps the biggest reason as to why the Twins are competing and that he could very easily be their CFer of the future. If he did steroids or something and added some 20-30 homer power, he'd be a legitimate 5-tool player.

I'm well aware. I live in Minneapolis surrounded by Twins fans, who all acknowledge how much he sucks. He's been more than terrible this season.

I go with Quentin for MVP.

 

Longoria is hoping to be back next week, so if he does well that will help him with ROY. Right now the top candidates are Longoria, Ramirez, and Galarraga(besides the fact he isn't getting much attention)..just by looking at stats..

15 home runs for Alexi now. I hadn't realized he had been quietly building those those power numbers. He could have over 20 by the time he's done. Well, if nothing else, he has to be near the top in HR's per pound.
