at the right price I would like him back as a utility/insurance guy. What will happen to him is your question though, your guess is as good as mine or anyone here for that matter.

I don't think he is a starter. I would like to find a utility player with more speed and higher obp.

As much as I would love for him to go, I don't think it's going to happen. Right now we're probably going to need a 3b and a SS unless Ramirez shifts to SS at which point we need a 2b. Crede isn't coming back and it looks like OC isn't. If we get a decent player for one of those positions, it should offset Uribe's weak bat. Blake would be ok, close to meh. Right now we just don't have a replacement especially with how poor Fields looked.

I was really down on him the first half of the year, but he came in and solidified the defense at third base when Crede went down. Watching Fields there was brutal. Granted, i think his positioning could be better (seemed to be a lot of grounders going in between him and OC) but i thought he did an okay job and would love him back as a utility player! Plus he seems to keep the club loose, who does not like the blond chin hair?

Offer him arbitration, sign him to a short 1-3 year deal if he's interested, maybe about $3-$4 million a year, as a utility guy who is excellent with the glove at 3 infield positions. Don't plan on him starting any of them unless someone gets hurt. If someone else outbids you, then move on to Getz/Bourgeois.

Does the good outweigh the bad? I'd say he breaks even. Sure there are good things he brings to the team, but his approach at the plate nullifies it all, for me anyway.

I say keep him, I loved his turnaround and he looks great in the dugout.

 

Could he be an insurance plan until Beckam learns 3B.

you are already losing 2 IF, don't know if you can lose a third. if OC is indeed gone and not coming back, I think you have to try and keep Uribe and have him fight Fields for the 3B job.

I would welcome Uribe back, if for no oterh reason then his ability to give the team infield options. I wouldn't expect much if any improvement at the plate though.

The guy just batted .247 this year. For a guy like Uribe, that's plenty, and basically all I've ever wanted out of him offensively. Re-sign him.

You aren't really losing 3 because two of them split time. The sox can find someone better, fairly easily. Juan would be okay for a few million.
