Blackberry or Palm?

Featured Replies

So, yesterday I dropped my cellphone down an airduct... never to be seen or heard from again. So, I am in need of a new cell phone. I'd like to replace my Palm Pilot while I am at it. So, i was looking at the Palm Centro or Blackberry Curve. Or, maybe take some suggestions (i have verizon).

Any opinions? I have a budget of under $200.

I say get the Upuaut to retrieve your Palm.

The curve is prob the best phone ive ever had. If its email you want, the only way to go is blackberry.

I'm still on the fence about if I want e-mail or not. I kind like the disconnect where I can only access stuff if I am on a computer.

Blackberry is the best and my favorite but I heard bad things about the storm so stay away from that.

I'm in the same boat you are, looking at a new phone. After all the research and questions I have asked, I am pretty much on the side of the Curve. I've heard pretty poor stuff about the Centro. I also have Verizon, by the way. The only problem is that Verizon doesn't do any grand specials on the Blackberry's. Right now AT&T is running a $25+/- sale on the Blackberry Curve. But Verizon wants you to use one of their phones with V-Cast and all their programs, so I think they only do specials on those phones. From what I have been able to tell.

I like the Dare phone, but loath the Verizon programs and set-up.

The Storm is absolute crap. I tried one out and it felt like I was about to break the dang thing.

I was at Woodfield Mall a few weeks back and they had a booth setup in the middle and I tried. it. HATED it. way too hard to use and the tap/click thing was annoying.

I'd prefer to carry an actual piece of crap in my pocket.

I have a BB Curve, and I'm pretty happy with it, overall. Just keep in mind that any of the mobile OS's - Windows Mobile, BB, Palm - are frustrating at times. Just poorly designed, really. But I tried a Windows Mobile phone for a while, and switched to BB, which is better.

If you don't want email though, don't bother with any of those types of phones. Just get a phone phone, you know?

well, see I want something that can replace my Palm Zire. So, i kinda need a "smart phone", i just dont want the e-mail and web options.

I am leaning towards the curve. I talked witha co-worker who has one and she likes it. Plus, it supposedly syncs better with Macs than Palm devises do.

So what other things do you need if you don't care about email or web?

Pretty much any standard cell phone can be used for storing contact info. Seems like a Palm or Blackberry is overkill if you're not using the device for email, etc.

A lot of phones arent as easy to use the extend functionality like address, e-mail address, etc...

Curve will do you just fine, if you dont have corp email then you just dont set up your gmail POP accounts and you'll be fine. Your messages folder will just be for texts then. The curve and the bold are both pretty awesome. I have a friend who swore by her palm devices and said she would never go to BB and is now a blackberry addict.

Go with the Blackberry. I have a Palm Treo as my work phone and I f***ing hate it. It's through Verizon and than my personal phone is on sprint (just got it) and I freaking love it (Samsung Rant). Best phone I've ever had. It's simple to use, has a qwerty keyboard and most importantly isn't f***ing touch. Touch is the biggest piece of garbage technology on a cell phone ever. I don't want touch, I want buttons cause than I can feel whatever I need when makinga call while driving (DARRRR).

Rant also does a nice job with handling mutliple email addresses which are handled through it. Plus Sprint, unlike Verizon, gives you pretty good capabiltiies of the phone (at least on the program I'm on).

So, here's an update... apparently to get either the Palm ro Blackberry, you are required to get the data plan. I was told this when i arrived at the Verizon store. And, I have no need for the data plan, nor would my wife approve it. So.... i got the LG Chocolate3.
