March 25, 200917 yr This is a quiz for people who know everything! I found out in a hurry that I didn't. These are not trick questions. They are straight questions with straight answers. 1. Name the one sport in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends. 2. What famous North American landmark is constantly moving backward? 3. Of all vegetables, only two can live to produce on their own for several growing seasons. All other vegetables must be replanted every year. What are the only two perennial vegetables? 4. What fruit has its seeds on the outside? 5. In many liquor stores, you can buy pear brandy, with a real pear inside the bottle. The pear is whole and ripe, and the bottle is genuine, it hasn't been cut in any way. How did the pear get inside the bottle? 6. Only three words in standard English begin with the letters 'dw', and they are all common words. Name two of them. 7. There are 14 punctuation marks in English grammar. Can you name at least half of them? 8. Name the only vegetable or fruit that is never sold frozen, canned, processed, cooked, or in any other form except fresh. 9. Name 6 or more things that you can wear on your feet beginning with the letter 'S.'

March 25, 200917 yr QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) I can't get questions 2 or 3 so far, and I only have two of the "dw" words (dwindle. dwarf). The rest I'm pretty sure i know. The pear brandy one is a really interesting story. Went to wikipedia to look that up...very cool. Never would have thought of that, yet so simple.
March 25, 200917 yr QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) 1 is definately boxing. I think you're right with avacado. Well done. Thanks, except I looked it up and I'm not.
March 25, 200917 yr QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) People know who leads that race. At each checkpoint yes, but not in between.
March 25, 200917 yr QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) At each checkpoint yes, but not in between. But it is a race. At any given point someone is always in the lead. People may not know due to the fact it is run in such ridiculous conditions and in the middle of nowhere but if they had UAVs up there following the mushers there would always be a leader. On one level you may be right in a sense, but I think the gist of the question was to single out a sport where there is no way for the participants or spectators to ever truly know who is ahead at any given time.
March 25, 200917 yr My answers are just guesses. Dweeb is slang but in dictionary, I think they were looking for dwell, dwindle and dwarf.
March 25, 200917 yr Author There are correct answers so far for 1, 4, 6, 7, and 9. Answers To Quiz: 1. The one sport in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends Boxing. 4. The fruit with its seeds on the outside..... Strawberry. I think this should include Pineapple, that was my guess 6. Three English words beginning with dw. Dwarf, dwell and dwindle. 7. Fourteen punctuation marks in English grammar. Period, comma, colon, semicolon, dash, hyphen, apostrophe, question mark, exclamation point, quotation mark, brackets, parenthesis, braces, and ellipses. 9. Six or more things you can wear on your feet beginning with 'S'. Shoes, socks, sandals, sneakers, slippers, skis, skates, snowshoes, stockings, stilts. Today is National Mental Health Day. You can do your part by remembering to send this e-mail to at least one person. My job's done! Just don't send it back to me. I've already flunked it once.
March 25, 200917 yr QUOTE (Texsox @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) There are correct answers so far for 1, 4, 6, 7, and 9. Answers To Quiz: 4. The fruit with its seeds on the outside..... Strawberry. I think this should include Pineapple, that was my guess No on pineapple. It's a bromeliad that is commercially propagated through cut cultivars and most commercial cultivars lack seeds which negatively effect fruit quality. Now, corn, on the other hand, should be accepted. And yes, corn is technically a fruit and not a vegetable since it's basically the seeds and over-ripened ovaries of the plant that we are consuming.
March 25, 200917 yr avacado is made in guacamole all the time....im guessing its watermelon, but there are watermelon flavored popsicles, not sure if that counts....
