Apparently Jenks, Thornton and Dotel don't throw hard enough?

From what I've seen of him in person, Aaron seems like throwing 98 MPH is second nature to him. It would be scary as hell if he actually went max effort to throw. He could be a deadly late inning reliever in the future if starting doesn't work out.

I have no doubt, im not knocking Poreda. But Thornton (to me at least) is the same way, he throws an effortless 98MPH, and we all know Jenks can dial it up when he needs to, and Dotel is also a hard thrower.

Good point, Thornton does throw effortlessly.

Yr gonna have to find for me the part where I said there were none already.

 

I'm pretty much saying I wanted another. When Carrasco comes out in a tight situation at some point, you'll want another too..

If Poreda's development was not an issue, are you saying youd keep one of our soft toss guys over him?

I remember how stoked everybody on this board was re: all the + arms for the 2007 season . I was flamed for suggesting a bunch of inexperienced relievers was not the way to go. I never played fantasy baseball but don't you get more points for more K's ? Fireballers always = exciting even if they don't always = results. KW learned his lesson and signed Dotel and Linebrink.

Probably, yes. Every good pitcher needs a changeup, and so do bullpens. You cant run flamethrowers out there everytime, you have to be able to make batters uncomfortable. Besides, this isnt Poreda vs Carrasco, This is Poreda vs Williams, Ozzie cant go into the season too deep in lefties, and Richard is probably going to be in the bullpen as the swingman

Thats the way it's supposed to go, you didnt do that part though.

Peace guys...you both have valid, but differing opinions.

Good move to get Poreda more seasoning. He will be a future "blazer" for the Sox soon enough.

I feel strongly both ways about that

The organization is going to be better off in the long run getting Aaron the innings he needs to develop his secondary pitches. With both Jose and Bartolo seemingly healthy, plus the pen in solid shape, there is no need to rush the kid.
