He's started off the season with his stats looking disturbingly like those of last season. 6/24 for a .250 batting average, 2 2b, 0 HR, 1 BB, 8 k's.

I would think that this is almost a compliment considering he's starting the season 100% better than last year and he's also a just turned 21 yo playing in AAA against guys 3-4 years older

A compliment? I'd hate to see what an insult is.

DV was assigned to Charlotte this year pretty early in training camp, so we didn't see much of him up with the big boys this year.

The Cuban Tank is heading to Chicago.

Just asking....when does an AAP close when a player gets to the bigs?

Typically, when they're traded or when there's no obvious chance of them returning to the minors.

This swing was about 2 swings before Dayan Viciedo's first major league home run.

He really does look like Uribe in that swing.

For Dayan Viciedo's first official feat as a White Sox right fielder, the 5-foot-11, 230-pounder made a smooth running catch down the line of Rickie Weeks' slicing line drive to open Tuesday's Cactus League game with the Brewers. The Cuban Tank followed up that effort by throwing out Edwin Maysonet trying to go from first to third on Craig Counsell's single in the sixth, earning praise from manager Ozzie Guillen.

"He was great," Guillen said. "To me it was more important where the ball's going and how he throws it than getting the guy out. He had good at-bats, hit the ball pretty good in two at-bats."

Guillen gave credit to White Sox first-base coach Harold Baines, Minor League outfield instructor Daryl Boston and Minor League baserunning coordinator Devon White for putting in extra work to help Viciedo get acclimated at his latest position.

"One thing about Viciedo, he has matured a little bit," Guillen said. "He came into camp in shape ready to play. Before, the last two Spring Trainings, we had to fight with him. It's not easy to go to Spring Training and have to lose weight. It's not.

"All of a sudden you get tired during Spring Training and your body's not acting the same way. And to be around JP [Juan Pierre] that helps. This guy is a workaholic."

CHICAGO -- The days of Dayan Viciedo as a third baseman seem to have been replaced by this top White Sox prospect moving almost exclusively to the outfield.

"Particularly in right field," said White Sox general manager Ken Williams. "He is very good out there."

White Sox Minor League director Buddy Bell and Williams talked about Viciedo two weeks ago and decided to mix him in at first base every now and then for Triple-A Charlotte. Viciedo's experience at first helps keep the White Sox insulated in case something happens to Adam Dunn or Paul Konerko.

"And if we run into a situation where we need him up here in the big leagues, and let's say you pinch-run for Adam or Paulie while they're playing first base and you got another guy who can come in and play that as well," Williams said. "That's the thought behind it. He's taking ground balls every now and then at third base, so we might mix him in there, too, with the same mindset."

Williams has stressed that the ball comes off Viciedo's bat better than almost any hitter in the organization. With Viciedo's offense serving as his main asset, the White Sox don't want to mess too much with his defensive position.

"We're very mindful of not making him [switch positions frequently], not disrupting him too much, because he's really come on strong with that bat," said Williams of Viciedo, who is hitting .322, with 32 RBIs and a .865 OPS.

Interesting that comes out at the same time that Kenny's other comments. I'm sure that means someone in the OF is in danger of losing their job.

Want to throw this out there.

Is Carlos Quentin in danger of losing his job?

I wouldn't say he has an extreme case of being a streaky hitter, but ever since his breakout season a few years ago, hitting over .280, 36 hrs, he hasn't really come close to that. And this year, same thing; HOT April, cool (so far) May.

I know that Juan Pierre is in danger. Would KW might be dangling Quentin in a trade??

The only way Q goes somewhere is if the team gets melted down wholesale.

I could very much see him being dangled this offseason though.

Depending on the season that he and the team have, it wouldn't surprise me.

If they dangle CQ and DV continues to rake and get better defensively then it is a no brainer to bring him. Anyone know where on MILB we can get defensive stats? Just curious to see how DV has done defensively in the outfield?

Nobody publishes minor league defensive stats aside from the easily calculated ones.

The advanced stats are available in the bigs because there isn't the caliber of video available necessary to figure out what type of range a player covers.
