I can name on one hand the number of players on this team who i consider to have a moderate level of baseball IQ when it comes to swinging a bat

Well his batting average is .250, but of course when he leans into one it'll leave the premises, but I think Konerko is a much smarter hitter than Thome is, more selective that's for sure

 

Thome has been better as of late though, I think his last week or so he's hitting over .300

I was thinking tonight, strangely, that we'd look a whole lot better if just 2 things were true:

 

(1) Carlos Quentin back and healthy; and

 

(2) Gordon Beckham hitting.

 

If just those 2 things were true (assuming PK not hurt), our lineup clutter would diminish considerably, particularly at the bottom of the order. We actually now have a good leadoff man and Ramirez is hitting, then we have the middle of the order, which is on par with where it was last year, if not better, as long as Quentin hits.

 

Also, I think Beckham has a clue up there.

Konerko and Thome have the same career batting average--and Thome is on the declining portion of his career. Unless he forgot something I figure he is a pretty wise hitter.

I agree that he is struggling, but he does have a .900 OPS on the year, so he is producing. However, it seems like he has sucked this year.
