How to make a protein shake that doesn't suck...

Featured Replies

This threads bump timing is pretty good. I was just about to post something in here asking about Protein shakes. My Whey Protein tub from GNC is about finished and I remember Rock talking about Muscle Milk. I was going to poll what people use. For me, its about keeping weight on. I am a diabetic who runs a lot to keep my glucose count in a reasonable level. I burn up a ton of calories as I am running from 40 minutes to an hour at 7.0 to 8.0 mph. I am thin enough and don't want to drop weight so I usually drink a protein shake an hour before my run, and then one 20 minutes after my run to keep from wasting away. I look for something that is going to be kind to my system, and not have a lot of carbs ( not good for diabetics ) and saturated fat.

For more general people, (not you) it's recommended that a post workout recovery drink have a 4-1 carbs to protein ratio. Especially if you really push it hard. I drink the new forumla of muscle milk as both a snack or small meal replacement or a protein supplement.

Heres a recovery drink http://www.puresport.com/products/index.html

And to plug Tony's as well. https://extranet.securefreedom.com/MillionD...&AddToCart=

Chocolate Milk is actually a very good recovery drink as well.

Chocolate Milk is actually a very good recovery drink as well.

And it is the most delicious food ever. At least, in my opinion.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ordered some cookies n' cream flavored Muscle Milk Light as a maintenance drink (I am in my first week of a workout program and want to make sure I start building muscle, as opposed to just taking off weight), and also ordered the cookies n' cream flavored Optimum 100 Whey Protein as a recovery drink.

Going to have the Muscle Milk in the morning and the evening, with the whey after my daily workout.

I will keep you guys posted with my experience with each product.

Received my two tubs of protein powder today. The cookies n' cream Muscle Milk Light came as chocolate. Oh well, I am too lazy to send it back and wait for the correct flavor, so I'll just go with this. Threw 2 scoops in a blender with some water, blended it up, then added about 4-5 ice cubes to try and thicken the texture a bit more like a shake. I must say, not too bad. A little bit much chocolate for my taste, but then again, that's why I didn't intentionally order the chocolate.

Going to have one of these for breakfast and then possibly in between a meal or something and see how it works in conjunction with the workout program.

Also bought the 100% whey protein, which I will use as a recovery drink. Will keep everyone posted about that too.
