White Sox 2009: Scott Podsednik

White Sox 2009: Scott Podsednik

By Mario Scalise

During SoxNet's visit to Arizona this past March for Spring Training, a friend of ours (Shipps) spotted Scott Podsednik, who was then with the Rockies, and told him that the White Sox could use a lead-off hitter. Podsednik's response? "I'm ready." Full Story

As you said in the article, it's all about the money. The Sox know Pods and won't be offering 5 mill a year even though that's the going rate for suspect middle relievers.

Like you said if the money is right there's no reason to not bring him back.

I can't wait to read some of the posts that are no doubt coming in this thread...

You would think Pods is the worst MLB player ever and is a total bum according to some of my Soxtalk brethren.

I doubt there will be many comments, considering the article was a great representation of Pods' season.

Very consistent at the plate; bad reads on defense; some bad baserunning gaffes. Team MVP candidate.

Apparently, according to the Tribune, Podsednik is in negotiations with the Sox.

We're gonna go with CQ in left, Pods in center and Rios in right? On paper, lotta question marks in that outfield.

Speed in center and right, though. All up to CQ to provide some power and stay healthy.

more like, scott nogoodnik lol~

Interesting that this thread was posted today. I was opining this morning about the whole Pods situation. Even as a huge Kenny Williams supporter I think he dropped the ball on this a little. When he signed Pods and brought him to Charlotte, Pods had been released by the Rockies and was waiting at home for a phone call. He had no offers to join a major league roster...not sure if he had any interest outside of the White Sox, and that was principally for 2005 memories (which I support). Seems to me that Kenny had all the contract leverage in the world at that point. If it didn't work out, no major loss. But if he was right/lucky and struck gold (as he ended up doing) why didn't he have a reasonable club option for 2010? I can't believe that it would have prohibited Pods from coming here--he was just looking for an opportunity to play. At the same time, I would hope Pods has some feeling of appreciation for the opportunity...though every time I think that's possible from a professional athlete, I'm let down. After all, St., Paulie Girl probably needs a new fur coat and some more diamond jewelry. Thoughts? Did Kenny make a mistake here?

Why the hell would Rios be in right and Pods in center? That makes absolutely no sense! It SHOULD be:

LF Pods

CF Rios

RF Quentin

I didn't think CQ would move to right, but that does make more sense.

I figured the fact Rios played some right this year when Pods was in center was the way Oz will go next year.

Pods as we all know isn't too good in center. Like Cowley wrote, gets a bad read on the ball.

Rios for all his offensive faults gets a great read.
