November 6, 200916 yr What about the Sox signing Hideki Matsui as our DH for a couple years? Would he cost too much? Would Thome come cheaper? Godzilla is 35 years old, but almost OPS'd .900 last year and is a career .292 hitter with .370 OBP.
November 6, 200916 yr If he's cheap enough and would be a full-time DH, then yes, definitely. He's a great hitter.
November 6, 200916 yr I've read speculation here that Godzilla is either retiring or heading back to Japan. Many in the media think that he's most likely to go to Seattle to play with Ichiro.

November 6, 200916 yr I'd love to see him in a Sox uni at DH but I don't see Kenny opening up the wallet to get that done.
November 6, 200916 yr Too much money and has some history of injuries. A solid player but he will not be the piece that puts this team into the playoffs, so he is not worth it to me.
November 6, 200916 yr Depends on the price. There's a lot of LH DH options out there (Thome, Johnson, Matsui, hell Podsednik, Bradley, etc.) I'd take him but not at more than a pittance.
November 6, 200916 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) What about the Sox signing Hideki Matsui as our DH for a couple years? Would he cost too much? Would Thome come cheaper? Godzilla is 35 years old, but almost OPS'd .900 last year and is a career .292 hitter with .370 OBP. I'd take a healthy Matsui over Thome. He's a better base-runner, has a nice OBP (Thome's is a bit nicer) but he hits for a much better average and handles the stick much better. Matsui is on my short list of potential DH candidates that I would really like. I wonder if the Iguchi/Shingo factor will help the Sox because I wonder how many places Matsui would really consider going to play. I kind of think he ends up in LA area, Seattle or stays in New York. Chicago could be a wild-card.
