This past year was the last time he's played over 100 games since 2001. I think Kenny is working on something bigger for leadoff and/or big-name bat. DH will be filled at the end of the season, probably last position that gets filled. I think if Kenny gets his player there's a good chance we'll see Thome back.
December 14, 200916 yr I think he has a bad back. I heard Bavasi say something like he's a great guy, but bad luck with the injury and that's why he won't be back in Seattle.
December 14, 200916 yr Too much money. I'd rather have Thome. Edited December 14, 200916 yr by MattZakrowski
December 14, 200916 yr QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) Word on the street is he's looking for 2-3 years at 10MM each. No thanks. Where in the heck did you see that?
December 14, 200916 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) Where in the heck did you see that? Thought I saw it on LL or MLBTR but now searching a bit I don't see anything. Still likely to be too pricey at 2 yrs 6-7MM each, which is a more realistic contract.

December 14, 200916 yr So even though Kendall, who is basically a warm body at this point, got 2yrs, you don't think a guy who hit 30 home runs can get a 2 year contract? Nick Johnson is going to get 2 years, so thats what Branyan will ask for. Someone will pay.

Kendall also plays the most difficult to fill defensive position AND he got half of the money you are talking about. You also throw around "hit 30 home runs" like it is something big. The guy has done it once in his career. He is also turning 34 in a few days. He also strikes out once every three ABs, is a horrible defender, and just hit over .250 for the first time his career when he had over 200 ABs. No one is giving Russell Branyon a 2 year, $14 million contract. It just isn't going to happen.
