July 29, 200322 yr Why would they pay for Milceli? With Lidge, Stone, Dotel, and Wagner their pen is great.
July 29, 200322 yr You can never have too many quality relievers. But if they are willing to pay more (or take on salary, same idea) why wouldn't they get a starter to address their one BIG problem?

Did they end up paying a lto of Miceli's contract? I didn't think Miceli made much and if he did I assumed the Yanks would be paying it. Miceli is a solid reliever. They didn't really give up anything.

July 30, 200322 yr The Yankees didn't have any room for Miceli. Their pen is stocked full with better arms. They got Miceli from the Rangers earlier in the season, too. That's why their the only team paying the luxary tax.
July 30, 200322 yr The Yankees got Miceli from Cleveland earlier this season along with Karim Garcia, but their bullpen really isn't that great. Hammond blew the Sunday night game for Weaver, giving up a 3-run homer to Varitek and a solo shot to Damon right after. Benitez and Orosco both gave up runs after that, and Osuna was the only one who didn't. Osuna and Rivera are the only ones I'd want on the Sox.
