Hey guys, I know nothing about cars.

When I was at the dealer earlier this week they strongly recommended I get a new battery, the one in there is about 6 years old.

Any chains you can recommend that will install for cheap? Brands of battery?

anything else I should know?

Just do it yourself. Its really easy, unless you have an all-electric car or something. Even on a hybrid its easy, though you need to be careful about what order you do things in, in that case (see your manual). Its scary if you haven't done it before, but if you follow the manual, you will be safe and save yourself some money.

No joke. Why pay for something that is an EASY job.

As others have noted...it's pretty simple to do it yourself. With that said...When I bought my last battery at Walmart, I saw a sign that they have free installation. It would save you a trip too, cause you have to turn your battery in to get the extra money off.

You can always return the old one the next day.

FWIW, it's an easy job depending on WHERE the battery is located. I just changed mine a couple of weeks ago and had to remove a stabalizing bar (I think that's what it was) and move a fuse box out of the way.

My friend has a car with the battery located underneath the windshield washer fluid container.

With my suburban I can just crawl inside with the engine and do the work. There's tons of space under there.
