June 24, 201114 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:23 AM) Viciedo 1/4, 2 K. Saladino 2/2, 2 2B so far. Wilkins is 1/2. Ravelo is 0/2, RBI Petricka 1 IP, 2 K. Saladino's numbers are on the upswing. .192/.286/.384 in May, .276/.348/.448 in June, .333/.400/.487 in last 10. Sickels mentioned him in his minor league notes yesterday: **I first noticed Chicago White Sox shortstop prospect Tyler Saladino when he was playing for Oral Roberts. A seventh-round pick in the '10 draft, he hit .309/.397/.442 in 47 games for Low-A Kannapolis last year after signing, but is hitting just .229/.313/.412 this year in 34 contests for High-A Winston-Salem. He was a terrific hitter in college (.381/.464/.678 last year), so this is the first time he's struggled substantially and it will be interesting to see if he can adapt. Even when he was hitting well in college and the low minors, scouts worried that his swing might be too long. The White Sox should be patient: his glove has been excellent so far this year, with only two errors committed and an above-average range factor at short. Scouts praise his throwing arm, and good defensive shortstops with a chance to hit get plenty of slack. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/6/22/2...-june-22nd-2011
June 24, 201114 yr That and Saladino is coming off a wrist injury. Those can be death on hitters. There's a big difference between being healthy enough to play and being healthy enough to hit well with wrist injuries.
June 24, 201114 yr QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:54 AM) That and Saladino is coming off a wrist injury. Those can be death on hitters. There's a big difference between being healthy enough to play and being healthy enough to hit well with wrist injuries. Oh yeah he definitely has a legitimate excuse for coming out of the gate slowly.
June 24, 201114 yr QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) Not sure why Gilmore continues to be out of the lineup for B'ham. Jon Gilmore is on the DL again with "knee trouble." Edited June 24, 201114 yr by JPN366
June 24, 201114 yr QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) Oh yeah he definitely has a legitimate excuse for coming out of the gate slowly. I'm pleased that the current consensus is that he can stick at SS. Opinion was very divided initially.
June 24, 201114 yr Tough 3-1 loss for the Voyagers to split the series with Billings. Offensively not a whole lot exciting when you only score one run. Randall Thorpe went 2 for 3 with the Voyagers only RBI. So guess you'd give him offensive player of the game. Millender and De Pinto each got a hit, 2 and 1 respectfully to extend each hitting streak to the first four games of the year. Relievers let the 1 run lead slip away after Sam Pheppin pitched 5 solid shut out innings striking out 7 on 2 hits. Tonight starts a 3 game home series against Missoula Osprey (Diamandbacks affiliate).
June 24, 201114 yr Here is something impressive in odd statistical way... Tyler Kuhn manages to have a .933 OPS, and slug .504, while hitting only one home run. That .429 OBP is pretty sick.
