My extended family is attending the Saturday 8/20 game to celebrate my sister's birthday. We are arriving in several vehicles from various parts of Indiana but would like to park/tailgate together.

 

My question is if there is any way to ensure that we can all park together, aside from having to meet up at some random gas station at some random Dan Ryan exit and then following each other to the parking lots?

Yes you can, as I just did this a few weeks ago.

 

Park in the church parking lot just east of the park on Wentworth. The price is the same as the "official" lots, they'll let you park on a perimeter so you can "save" spots for your friends (as long as they don't show up way later), and it's about 100 times easier to get out of that lot and onto the highway.

 

It's something you wouldn't think to do as you drove by without a reccomendation, so here it is. Trust me on this one.

Just tacking on my support of this recommendation. Any time I don't have pre-paid parking, I park in this lot.

If I recall correctly, they pretty much abide by the same rules as official lots so alcohol is A-OK. They should be open when you get there as well.

Not sure how early they open. On a busy game, that lot will fill completely. The earlier you get there, the better. 4:00ish area should be fine to get all of your cars in there and in the same spot. I wouldn't push later than 4:30.

 

The sign says no alcohol, however security tells you on the way in just to cover it up, they really could care less. So either bring cups, or cover your bottle/can with a paper towel or something. Everyone in there is drinking and it's not a problem.

The church lot is definitely the way to go.

For example, my family tried parking a larger Mazda and we were told it was too small to tailgate from even though smaller cars were able to tailgate. A larger car that showed up later was given the same answer, "large cars only."

 

Go to the church, that is probably best, unless you want to get hassled.

Really? I've tailgated in my Sebring by myself.

The only reason I can think of why they were doing it is because it was the fourth of July and they anticipated lots of people bringing big trucks that wanted to tailgate. So maybe they gave the "large trucks only" reason to curb the amount of people in smaller cars tailgating that day.

 

Either way the parking guy was being a deuche.
