They shouldn't just give up on him but they should make him earn the starting 2B job next spring. If he doesn't earn it, he should be the utility infielder to start the year. He'd make a great utility infielder providing good defense at 2B, 3B and SS. If he produces well in that role he can always win a starting job back. But to just hand him the starting 2B job without any competition next year would be a mistake.
