Carlos Febles waived

Featured Replies

Is this someone the Sox should take a shot at? He has a world of potential and we could use a 2B of the future...

Carlos Febles, once considered Kansas City's second baseman of the future, was designated for assignment Tuesday and in all likelihood is finished with the club.

Febles had been a disappointment both offensively and defensively despite occasional flashes since his rookie season in 1999.

Febles and center fielder Carlos Beltran came up together through the minor-league system and were expected to become impact players.

Beltran, in fact, has. But Febles never got his career going and came into this season with a .252 lifetime average.

"I'm disappointed," said Febles, 27. "But I'm mainly disappointed in myself. I came out of spring training with big expectations and didn't fulfill them. I didn't do my job."

Febles was hitting .235 with 11 RBIs in 196 at-bats for the AL Central leaders. His fielding error on a potential double-play grounder in the ninth inning last week led to a three-run rally by Tampa Bay and a demoralizing 3-2 loss.

The Royals' new full-time second baseman will become Desi Relaford.

No interest here.

If Tony Pena can't get him to play, I'm not sure JM can.

No, but someone will want him he is a quality player I think

I'd pass. We dont need him this season and we have Harris/Miles for the future.

Harris/Miles??? Egads. I hope we convince Robbie to come back.

I don't think we should pick him up. I'd like to see us resign Alomar to a 2-3 year deal, and if we can't, then I'd like to see Harris, Miles, or even Hummel tried as our 2B.

Agreed.

I'd sign him if the Sox could sign him to a minor league deal (don't think that would happen). I do think he'd be a solid pickup. Has some potential.

no stick, no future, no febles for me

if they're not going to resign Robbie, I'd rather see Willie Harris get a legit chance.

Need to find out if he can A) play the position; B) get on base and C) steal 40-50 bases.

We need to re-sign Robbie.

Is anybody gonna pay Robbie massive bucks again??

What team would be that stupid?

I mean I love Robbie's contributions so far, but if any team gives him

mega bucks, they are beyond idiotic.

Do you folks think Robbie will sign for an amount where we will keep him?

Cause Harris is scary and though I like what I've heard of Miles, I'd rather have

somebody established like Roberto.

As far as Febles, I agree if we can put him in our minor league system fine, but

you make a great point. If Pena can't get it out of him nobody can.

He is a great guy, however, and gives 100 percent effort.

Actually, Feebles sounds like a perfect pick up for the Cubs. I don't think he'd help us. I'll stick with Robbie for as long as possible, then I believe Hummel will be the man at 2B.
