These manager "polls"

Featured Replies

First of all, these aren't polls, they're quizzes, and what is the point exactly? To convince us that good ol' Jerry is a pretty good manager after all?

No. Not good. Him bad. If you never fire him, and he lives long enough, maybe he'll have more wins than Jimmy Dykes. SO? Win a winnable division championship!

I wish I were closer to the team geographically. Being a long distance fan makes it tougher to evaluate a manager, and I have never endorsed his removal, just my dissatisfaction with him. It wouldn't bother me in the least to fire Jerry and, when the team comes home Sunday night/Monday morning, have Wally Backman there waiting for them. If the Sox get clobbered again Sunday, I just don't think that they will bounce back as they did before.

Either way, I don't think that he will return next year. Do it now. Am I panicing? Yes.

Yes exactly this team has been a big disappointment 3 years in a row now, Manuel is an AWFUL manager.

I disagree -

but then I think Koch is 44 and my man AR is 33 so what do I know?

All these polls prove his how long we have suffered with lousy managers.

It doesn't really matter if they are technically poles or quizzes. They are a chance to think of our current manager in terms of his predecessors. I believe that was the intent of the posts.

Of course judging a current manage in terms of former managers does require a extensive knowledge of those former managers besides just their won loss pct.

I personally do not believe Jerry Manuel is either in the top half dozen or bottom half dozen when compared to the team's former managers. He seems an average manager somewhere in the middle of the pack.

What I find a bit ridiculous is that you had to stick them like they were important. Don't use your admin powers like that. It's not a big deal, but the principal of it is wrong. It's basically saying that other threads are less important. Like I said it's not a big deal though. I just think JM needs to be fired. The players like him, but this team needs either a clubhouse leader or a manager that's not afraid to lay into them.
