July 12, 201312 yr Guy used to be pretty dang good, & is still only 27, but just got DFAd by Baltimore. Have injuries been hurting him or is he just BAD these days? In 2009 he pitched 215 innings going 14-10 with a 2.60 ERA. In 2011 he pitched 152 innings going 13-6 with a 2.96 ERA. Possible Coop job?....or maybe he is just BAD now?
July 12, 201312 yr Shoulder injury. This is what can happen Fastball velocity went from 91.5 to 88.5. A 3 MPH drop in velocity is going to do a lot of damage. He might be a guy the Sox look at, but shoulder injuries typically force pitchers to either learn how to pitch again or learn how to live in the real world. EDIT: I was thinking shoulder. May have been his knees. Either way, not someone to count on Edited July 12, 201312 yr by witesoxfan

And why getting John Danks off the payroll just to clear salary wouldn't be the worst idea in the world... Jurrjens has struggled with injuries in the past few years. He had right knee surgery after the 2010 season and dealt with a groin issue in 2012. Part of his struggles last season may have been connected to a weakness in his surgically repaired knee. Hermie will fix him. TM. Edited July 12, 201312 yr by caulfield12

July 12, 201312 yr Heard a good 30 minute analysis on MLB Radio on XM on this very subject during spring training. He has no cartilage in his knee and can't push off the mound. IE: He is done.

The guy is coming back off shoulder surgery and hasn't been half bad. It could be next year before we see the improved Danks as it takes a while to come back from shoulder surgery and then reports have been the pitcher is actually better as the shoulder is stronger

Sounds like Matt Nachreiner, except he never had cartilage to begin with. /NAMEDROP QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) Not following you on Danks? Santana had about a 2-3 month stretch of good pitching, was horrid for 5 starts after that, and hasn't pitched since. That was about a year ago. So, if you're keeping track at home, it's been about 2 full years out of the last 2 and a half that he's missed. After this season, Danks still has 3 years left on his deal.
July 12, 201312 yr If we can dump Danks, we do it. Though he's not necessarily going to hurt us to bad if we keep him either.

Sanatana re-injured the shoulder. You shouldn't assume everyone will re-injure themselves. Can it happen sure. Could he be stronger and more effective, sure. With the way he is currently throwing, I'll lean towards the continue to improve side.
