October 23, 201312 yr I think it is interetsing to see how the 2 best teams in baseball were built. Some smart moves, good drafting and both teams got lucky with some moves. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...-sox-were-built http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...nals-were-built
October 23, 201312 yr I thought Curt Schilling had a good point about the cardinals, they don't look for the 5-tool players per se, but baseball players. They draft good baseball players, guys who know the game and understand it and are good all around players.

You look at their big homegrown contributors, a lot of late round next to nothing bonus guys. Considering the excuse the White Sox have had about draft position, the Cardinals seem to find away around it without going over slot.
October 23, 201312 yr One team had the 4th highest payroll in baseball, the other was just out of the top 10 at about $115 million

Just take a look at what the Cardinals got in '09...Shelby Miller 1st round, Joe Kelly 3rd round, Matt Carpenter 13th round, Trevor Rosenthal 21st round, Matt Adams 23rd round. That's in one draft! And all 5 are on the current WS roster. Damn...

October 24, 201312 yr Both teams were helped (to an extent) by baseball teams that have Los Angeles in their name.
