November 19, 201312 yr I am teaching the Gettysburg Address today and thinking what a cool speech it was. Pretty damn effective as well. In looking at sites and getting some ideas, I discovered a lot of people that had memorized it. That seemed so old fashioned. I'm wondering if anyone here was made to memorize that or any speech? BTW, I annoyed my math teacher when I had our students give math answers in terms of score.
November 19, 201312 yr I'd heard of people who had to memorize it, but we merely studied it. I did have to memorize Marc Antony's speech from The Tragedy of Julius Caesar.

November 19, 201312 yr I still think it's crazy that the guy before him spoke for TWO hours and he only spoke for two minutes.

November 19, 201312 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 12:33 PM) Especially because the long speech was the tradition of the day. And he also had a reputation for giving long speeches.
