WHITE SOX MAKE THREE ROSTER MOVES

March 14, 2014 at 10:53am

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, March 14, 2014

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Prior to today’s game vs. Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox made the following three roster moves:

Optioned LHP Frank De Los Santos, RHP Nestor Molina and INF Carlos Sanchez to Class AAA Charlotte.

With the moves, the White Sox have 44 players remaining in major-league camp: 21 pitchers, four catchers, 13 infielders and six outfielders.

So, there are still 4 catchers in camp. I assume one is Nieto. Since he was a Rule 5 pick, if the Sox send him to the minors he goes back to the original team? Is that how it works? And is that the only reason he's still in camp?

Yes, if the Sox don't keep Nieto in the majors they have to offer him back to the Nats for $25K or work out a trade.

There would still be 4 catchers in camp at this point regardless, and there are usually three right up until the last day of ST.

Aww, I was looking forward to seeing more of Sanchez. I'm enjoying watching the MI's this ST.

If Nestor Molina is Marco Paddy's biggest mistake, I'm ok with that.

No surprises. With Downs a lock (barring injury), the LOOGY battle is down to Veal and Purcey. Veal is out of options and probably has the inside track.

Yep. It's just that we won't be able to judge him on the LA spects for several years, so this is what we got, for now.

Does any kid dream of being the LOOGY? It may be my favorite position now.

I bet there are a bunch of kids in the minors who would love it right now.
