Sierra, 25, was claimed off waivers from Toronto on Saturday and takes the roster spot of left-handed pitcher Frank De Los Santos, who was optioned to Charlotte following last night’s game against the Indians. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Sierra was designated for assignment on May 1 after going 2-34 (.059) in 34 games with the Blue Jays this season. He batted .290 (31-107) with 13 RBI and 11 runs scored in 35 games with Toronto in 2013, including a .317 (26-82) average with 12 doubles and 11 RBI in September. Sierra ranked among the AL September leaders in doubles (3rd), extra-base hits (T4th, 14), slugging percentage (8th, .524) and on-base percentage (9th, .385). Sierra is a career .229 hitter (66-288) with seven home runs and 30 RBI in 97 games over three seasons with Toronto (2012-14). He will wear uniform No. 25. Gillaspie, 26, has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 26 (retro to April 22) with a left hand contusion. He is batting .302 (19-63) with 12 RBI and eight runs scored in 16 games with the White Sox this season.
