I believe that was tried unsuccessfully already. When they first started releasing DVDs to the general public for purchase, DIVX movies were available, for under $10. The thing was, you could only watch them once, I don't think they ever "self-destructed" though. And DIVX, not the Codec for Microsoft, never recovered, and went bankrupt on that idea.

Circuit City had some sort of evil partnership for their DIVX deal. That is one of many reason why I never shop at that store. I still remember the commercials with that DIVX guy:

 

"If you're going to get a DVD Player, why not get one with DIVX?"

that was AWFUL i am still confused as to that whole concept

thats what im thinkin too doub... and if you rent a few of them then you get a free rental to boot.... do people actually sit at the computer and watch dvd's.. :huh: .. whats the point... geez if i want to watch a good movie i stretch out on the couch and look at it on the big screen tv and listen to it in surround sound... i couldnt imagine sittin at my puter for 2 hours watching a movie on this little moniter tryin to listen to it on these s***ty little speakers........ :rolleyes: me thinks its a dumb idea.....

Michelle, you don't have to watch the DVD on a computer.

It works the same as a regular DVD, it just wears out in 2 days.
