October 10, 201510 yr Author I posted this mostly just to see what happened with that 2012 veteran club. Whether the Sox could have done a lot better trading on those assets is fair discussion. The fact is that we got next to nothing back, and that is a big reason why the Sox are currently in an untenable position. No money to invest in free agents. No position players ever come up from the minors and amount to cornerstone players. The only tradeable assets left at the moment are members of the pitching staff that the Sox have done well to build. Plus, a manager that isn't helping the team. And a front office conflicted between what Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams might want to do.

No one has a crystal ball when it comes to trading players at their highest value. At some point how long do you trade anyone who is good in hopes that getting younger and good shows up? Prospects are the highest risk to trade for in this organization.

Wasn't a fluke year for Rios, he's had multiple seasons like that. Pierzynski, Konerko, Ramirez, Viciedo, De Aza, Rios, and Dunn all had good years. How is that "terrible"? October 10, 201510 yr DeAza garbage. Viciedo garbage. Youk. Beckham. 36 year old Konerko. Adam Dunn hit .204. Couple guys had unexpectedly good years and the position players were still 16th in WAR.

Konerko yet another .850 OPS season. Adam Dunn hit 41 home runs, good for 6th best in White Sox history. Rios good for 3.9 WAR. AJ had his best season as a baseball player. #4 team in the AL in runs scored.

Notice I didn't include Youk and Beckham because they were the two players who I did not think have good years. Konerko was 36, so what? Still put up good numbers. Dunn hit .204, but had 41 HRs and drew 105 walks. That's what we signed him to do.

October 11, 201510 yr 16th in WAR for the 2012 white sox position players. BFD. and you had a bunch of guys do way better than was expected and it still wasn't that good.
