March 24, 201610 yr Author Big Ten hockey and volleyball is pretty elite as well. Outside of Michigan, hockey is pretty down right now at the other schools.

Some might say that football is just about as good, as well.
March 24, 201610 yr Author ACC Men's Basketball is superior to the Big Ten. Some might say that football is just about as good, as well. ACC is a better conference in hoops, but Big Ten is also very strong. Pretty clearly the 2nd best conference this year. The gap is much wider in other sports.
March 24, 201610 yr From a competition standpoint it makes no sense bc the two hockey conferences don't really compare but from a geographical and I'm sure money point, this is probably a really good move.

This was a down year for Minnesota, but in general they're one of the top programs in the country. They're located in one of the most talent-rich areas, too. But outside of Michigan and Minnesota, yeah, the Big Ten isn't a very good hockey conference. Penn State is getting better, and Michigan State and Ohio State will have the occasional decent year. Wisconsin has been down for a while. The big problem is only having 6 teams in the conference. ECAC, Hockey East, NCHC and WCHA are all better than the Big Ten.
