April 23, 20169 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) Wonder how healthy he is I'm sure his wrist is still sore. He'll be fine I think we all knew he'd struggle to start the season there
April 24, 20169 yr Matt Cooper still looks interesting to me. I guess he's old for A ball, but after pitching only in relief his first 2 years in the org (and striking out a ton), he's now in the rotation and still striking out a lot of batters.

More on Cooper in his profile, if you want to read it (some video links in there too). I was one of the people "on him", but even I didn't anticipate seeing him become a starter. My guess is, this is the reliever-working-as-starter to get innings thing, more than anything else. But that is ONLY my guess, I don't know that. If I see him when I go down there in June, I'll ask him.

Something to note, Cooper was exclusively a starter in college at the University of Hawaii and was converted by the Sox to be a reliever when he began his pro career. I agree with Matt's guess that he is just getting consistent innings, but just food for thought.
April 25, 20169 yr I also should mention Cooper does throw four pitches, FB, curve, slider, and a CH. He told me back in August he doesn't throw the CH much while relieving and the Sox could of seen something they like with it.

That's one of those funny things about seeing guys in person only once or twice. They can sometimes be doing something unusual. I saw nothing but FB, CB, CH when I video'd him. You can see it on the channel. No sliders. Then he told you he wasn't throwing the change much later in the year.

I think the Sox tinker with guys occasionally and ask them to not throw a certain pitch for an outing or two to force them to use others. Similar to the way they made Rodon not throw sliders one start in Winston-Salem I believe. Edited April 25, 20169 yr by southside hitman
