and don;t forget verse 4 of Stan: Dear Stan, I meant to write you sooner, but I've just been busy. You said your girlfriend's pregnant now, how far along is she? Look, I'm really flattered you would call your daughter that. And here's an autograph for your brother: I wrote it on your Starter cap. I'm sorry I didn't see you at the show, I must have missed you. Don't think I did that s*** intentionally, just to diss you. And what's this s*** you said about you like to cut your wrists too? I say that s*** just clownin' dawg, c'mon, how f***ed up is you? You got some issues, Stan, I think you need some counselin' To help your ass from bouncin' off the walls when you get down some. And what's this s*** about us meant to be together? That type of s***'ll make me not want us to meet each other. I really think you and your girlfriend need each other. Or maybe you just need to treat her better. I hope you get to read this letter. I just hope it reaches you in time. Before you hurt yourself, I think that you'd be doin' just fine If you'd relax a little. I'm glad that I inspire you, but Stan Why are you so mad? Try to understand that I do want you as a fan. I just don't want you to do some crazy s***. I seen this one s*** on the news a couple weeks ago that made me sick. Some dude was drunk and drove his car over a bridge And had his girlfriend in the trunk and she was pregnant with his kid And in the car they found a tape but it didn't say who it was to Come to think about it...his name was...it was you. DAMN!
  2. When all men are honorable and stop flirting with women just to have sex, when all men are faithful and honor their commitments, then you have a complaint against women. Otherwise, it is all a part of life. Just a part of life, my friend.

I do believe that Em will be relevant 40 years from now, but no way we can prove that now! Some referenced the song Kim. Take that song of context at face value on that album and it sounds horrible. You can do that with a lot of things - Wagner's operas, Bob Marley and Eric Clapton singing "I shot the sheriff." Em makes the point very clearly about who is in massive need of help - the one who commits violence. That song graphically and accurately portrays the escalation of domestic violence, but it does not advocate it, any more than Oliver Stone advocated mass murder in Natural Born Killers, or Bret Perry Ellis advocated torture and murder in American Psycho, or Picasso advocated war in Guerrnica. I just came back from court getting PPOs on an asshole who beats up on women. I wish he would listen to Eminem because Em is clear on who is doing wrong here.
  4. That Memorial Monday loss to the NYY was painful, and sent us reeling. The comeback against the cubs was in June, The best thing about the end of the seaon is we were 10 under and finished at 500. That the team came together with the rookies and all was a highlight of the season too.

Beatles, Dylan, certainly genius. So are Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. Warren Zevon is an exceptional talent, who we will lose shortly, sadly. Eminem is certainly genius. Those who knock rap don't realize the work effort and musicanship that goes into rap, and Em not only has the work ethic in supreme, he he unparalled as a wordsmith. Deifferent genres of music require different things. Em is real talent, the real thing, whether one appreciates the art form or not.

spiff, right on. Em is the real thing. I don't know him, but I have sources to know a lot about him, and he is the real thing. The Oakland County Court would have loved to put it to the supposed foul mouthed vulgar Detroit rapper - but their own court investigations was overwhelming in its report on Em being the superior parent for his child. Baggs saying he bought that decision is bull s*** and conjecture by someone who is putting a preconceived opinion on a reality that he doesn't know - but that is ok, baggs is more than a great guy, just not a reliable reporter on rap and its stars! The movie was so excellent. saw it 3 times already. Seing it tomorrow. I am working on picking out the details in the filming and the script that you can't get in a first viewing. By the way, I am 50 year old who is not pre-disposed to like rap, but I have gotten to know it as I work with young people, and I have come to love it, and I have come to regard Eminem as a real genius. A lot of my friends scoff, but they have never taken the time to understand what they don't know - the same complaints we made about our parents and our music. My grandson listens to Em, with me- hey, we rap together, not the usual thing but it works for us! We are bound in our common love of family, the White Sox, the University of Michigan, and Eminem - a lot of grandparents have fewer bonds with their granchildren so I am down with it, dawg!

spiff, by the way, the intensive court investigation in one of the most conservative county courts in Michigan, which is not prone to father's rights, let alone supposed crazed rappers, is that he is an outstanding father, totally devoted to his daughter. Of course anyone who listens to his music knows that since he always raps on his love for Hailey. The little sister character in 8 Mile represented his daughter, and the tenderness and love we saw on screen is what we have heard for years in his music. For what it is worth, Kid Rock (I'm not a fan of Kid Rock) is also known to be a very wonderful father.

I love it when people who know nothing about Eminem's life or music but the little tid bits they have heard on the Entertainment Channel, and from that bs and their assumptions issue forth totally non-informed opinions. How was that for gentle - but accurate. "I'm not buying it" Mike indeed, the guy has a real life story and has done something with his life that deserves credit and praise. And baggio, I humbly suggest good friend that you know nothing about his lyrics. Hey, rap isn't your game, but don't take a snippet out of context, and wrongly so. he never said he would take a bat to his mother, by the way. What is real: Eminem is an incredible rapper, a musical genius, a profoundly talented words smith, and the movie 8 Mile is one of the two best films of the year thus far (the other, Y Tu Mama Tambien). Em's lyrics are really about the abandonment of children by parents who cared more about their own pleasures than loving and raising their children, the pain that infidelity causes, and in 8 Mile especially that work, real work, is the only way to get ahead in life. Baggio, you'd love it in the movie when he tells his unemployed mom, "You can't keep living like this. You've got to get a job. You know, work!" I am fatigued with criticisms of Em by people who do not know the music. I can't stand counbtry music but you'll never see me bash it, because it is not my music, I don't know it, so I don't knock it. Eminem is as real as can be. Insights on that for me come from knowledge of the court cases in Michigan (the lawsuits, the custody matter, etc.) which I have access to as working in a law office and as a member of a state bar section. And also, because his life has been followed in Michigan very closely since he is from here. I think the guy is a real genius and a profound talent. Not for everyone. For those who can't stad rap, go spin some Metallica! More your style I am sure!
  11. Heather, first of all, sending you greetings, have missed you greatly onn the MLB boards. Any conversation with BigFrank was an adventure! He'd post on and on abiyt the most unbelievable things - his favorite basketball player was Dirk Nowicki (spelling?) of Dallas and he got riled when you rapped on the Mavs only less rabidly than when anyone critized Frank Thomas. Hope all is well with you at ISU -
  12. chisxofan, yeah, i was the one who always had troubles with the chat - however, I may have solved that somewhat, I boosted my memory on the iMac and have the G4 powerbook now linked by an airport, and a few other things, so that next season I should be fine! Nothing like spending about $800 bucks just so I can chat with Sox fans...
  13. this is the official Sox announcement: WHITE SOX AGREE TO TERMS WITH PAUL KONERKO ON THREE-YEAR DEAL CHICAGO – First baseman Paul Konerko and the Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a three-year contract through the 2005 season. The agreement, terms of which were not disclosed by the club, was announced this afternoon by Rick Hahn, White Sox assistant general manager. Konerko, who turns 27 on March 5, batted a career-high .304 (173-570) with 27 home runs and 104 RBI in 151 games for the White Sox in 2002. The All-Star finished second on the team in hits, doubles (30), slugging percentage (.498), total bases (284), average and RBI, and was third in home runs and runs scored (81). “Paul is a key member of this team both on and off the field, and our focus has been on signing him to a multiyear contract,” said Hahn. “He is one of the top hitters in the game, has been extremely consistent over the past four seasons, and is a major influence and leader in our clubhouse. Paul brings a very professional, intense approach to the ballpark each day, and we are pleased to have him under contract through 2005.” Konerko is a .291 (644-2,189) hitter with 104 home runs and 381 RBI in 592 games with the Sox after being acquired from Cincinnati for Mike Cameron on November 10, 1998. He is a lifetime .287 (692-2,413) batter with 111 home runs and 410 RBI in 673 career games with the Dodgers (1997-98), Cincinnati (1998) and the White Sox (1999-2002).
