I was hoping for Kelly because having the double whammy of criminal defense experience + public defender would have been great to have on the court. Could have helped our major access to justice issues. That said, Garland seems like a very solid choice at first blush.

Late to the party but just finished. My thoughts echo a lot of those in here. But specifically, Dassey's first lawyer got me the most. I can't imagine what part of the story would have been left off that would mitigate how terrible he was. Essentially working for the prosecution, and letting him be interviewed alone? Are kidding me?
